Legend tryouts
Since COVID'19 started spreading, we are continously being convinced that our bodies are a threat for society and the world around us so we should protect the others from them. We should isolate ourselves from the world, we are dangerous. Our bodies take the burden of guilt, shame, fear. We are attacked daily by media that makes us hate our bodies and be afraid of them. That's why I decided to explore the relationiship of people with their bodies - physical and mental - and more particularly - how has it changed since the quarantine started.

For the mapping I'm planning to use characters, that I will create with the Bitmoji app. It is an app that people install on their phones and create a representation of themselves to easily share their own emotions, feelings and actions when communicating online. There are a few things we don't realise though - the app is not at all a true representation of us as the app options don't allow it - for example you can't recreate your unsymmetrical nose, your pimples, your moles, your scars, your braces, your messy hair... With the stickers or gifs you can't represent your mental state, your fears, your aspirations, your views... You can't represent your voice, your laugh, the way you walk... What I mean is, that app is full of 'standards' and stereotypes. You have to choose between only 3 types of lips, 6 types of body and 3 types of breasts. No more. That's the standard.

In that sense, I decided to work with the app features but make the stereotyping myself, based on the app available options. I will make a complete unlogical relations between feelings and thoughts (collected from the survey) and looks created in the Bitmoji app. That way, alongside sharing the results from my survey, I want to make people think about stereotypes and how we sometimes judge only by ‘the norm’ and the look, while it is often not what it looks like.

I chose the two topics most closely related to our body – attitude and feelings about your own body and mental state - for orienting my map on an x-y axis. I will create every bitmoji person based on an individual’s answers from the survey – kind of ‘judging’ and ‘stereotyping’ him according to his answers but based on really absurd criteria.
A really rough start of the legend (still needs a lot of thought and improving)
- there will be images of the features not related to colors
- will be more well structured and readable, understandable (in terms of fonts, shapes and sizes)
- I have to find a good neutral colors for the background and text
